Hundreds
of fifth grade children are now learning about the positive aspects
of a career in the construction industry, thanks to the CAWV members
who have sponsored AGC of America's Build Up! campaign.
Over the past two years, members have donated and participated
in the Build Up! program by sponsoring 21 schools involving 37
classrooms.
More sponsors and volunteers are needed to continue teaching West
Virginia's future contractors about the industry. There
are several ways CAWV members may become involved with Build Up!.
One way is through sponsoring a Build Up! tool kit for an area
school.
Build
Up! Tool Kit for Learning
- Grabs the
curiosity of school children through interactive lessons and
lets them experience the excitement of tools and techniques
of the industry.
- They learn
problem solving, estimating, organizing, and leadership as they
work through the various lessons and exercises.
- Focuses
on the various career opportunities within the construction
industry,
the job responsibilities within each category, and the skills
and education needed to perform each job, as well as the salary
range.
Build Up! needs the support of all CAWV members. Members
who wish to sponsor Build Up! Can do so by purchasing the tool
kits for their local schools. The cost is $185 and can
be ordered through the CAWV.
How
members will benefit from Build Up!
- Interest
and curiosity about the construction industry from our future
builders, architects and engineers by investing in the school
-to-work effort.
- Goodwill
with teachers and their students by providing them with the
necessary educational materials and tools to learn about an
industry that affects their everyday lives
- A chance
to engage up to 5,000 teachers reaching hundreds of students
and their parents and providing them with what may very
well be their first comprehensive look at the industry.
- Appreciation
for the industry's commitment to maintaining safe work sites
for its employees an thelocal community.
- A showcase
for the construction industry to promote life long career options,
including opportunities for advancement and ownership.
