Protecting Your Vision Starts with the Right Eye Protection

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Eye injuries can happen in an instant, but the consequences can last a lifetime. Construction professionals are routinely exposed to hazards such as flying debris, dust, chemicals, grinding operations, welding activities, and other tasks that can cause serious eye damage if proper protection is not worn.

One of the most effective ways to prevent eye injuries is ensuring workers have the right protection for the specific task being performed. Not all safety eyewear is created equal. Different jobs may require safety glasses, goggles, face shields, or specialized lenses designed to protect against impact, chemical splashes, ultraviolet light, or airborne particles.

Training and awareness are equally important. Employees should understand workplace eye hazards, know which type of protection is required, and recognize when damaged or inadequate eyewear needs to be replaced. Scratched lenses, loose frames, or worn straps can reduce visibility and compromise protection.

Employers also play a critical role by establishing clear PPE policies, providing appropriate eye protection, and reinforcing safe work practices. Routine inspections, proper storage, and regular cleaning of protective eyewear help ensure equipment remains effective and comfortable to wear.

Protecting your eyesight is one of the simplest and most important safety measures on any jobsite. Taking a few moments to select, inspect, and wear the proper eye protection can help prevent injuries that may impact a worker for years to come.
